Other common uses for timbers are rail-road ties and crane mats, and smaller bridges, mainly in the country-side and parks.

Log homes also make extensive use of timbers, in order to keep the rustic appearance, favored by many architects and interior decorators.

About Timbers

DELIVERING THE DIFFERENCE TO CUSTOMERS EVERYDAY.

Although in Europe the word timber is used to refer as lumber (US), here in the United States we use the word “timbers” to indicate planks or thick pieces of lumber.

Usual sizes are 3” and thicker w 6” and widerand, naturally, these are used for interior or exterior structural or decorative applications.

When in squares of 4” x 4” or larger they are used for columns and posts. Although softwoods are used in these larger sizes, many timbers are in tropical hardwoods, made from high density and durable species.

Although softwoods are used in these larger sizes, many timbers are in tropical hardwoods, made from high density and durable species. They are usually air-dried only, as the drying times in dry-kilns can be up to 60 days or more, making the process uneconomical.
